Museu de la Noguera
On the 31st of January 1983 the Balaguer Town Council and the Department of Culture
of the Generalitat de Catalunya (The Autonomous Government of the Catalan Region)
signed an agreement whereby the old Municipal Museum of Balaguer was transformed
into the District Museum of La Noguera with the intention of administering the important
local archaeological patrimony and developing research and diffusion links between
the institution and the district.
The Islamic and County patrimony of the district of La Noguera, and especially the
city of Balaguer, has become one of the points of reference in the understanding
of the mark of Islam in Catalonia. This is why the Museum of La Noguera wishes to
fulfil the function of a centre of interpretation and diffusion of this patrimony
from the Medieval epoch, as it understands that it is one of the points on which
the dynamisation of the region of La Noguera must be based. Even so, as guarantor
as it is of the preservation, documentation, research, diffusion and enjoyment of
the cultural heritage of the region, it has its own lines of research and collaboration
with other institutions that deal with themes that range from prehistoric times to
the present day.
The headquarters of the museum, situated in the old quarter of the town of Balaguer,
is a new building that was opened on the 25th of May 1995. With a surface area of
1,500 m2 distributed on three floors, the museum has the necessary installations
to be able to offer a broad service destined to local and district promotion: permanent
exhibition rooms, a temporary exhibition room, library, educational services and
preservation and restoration workshops. |
